Three promises to every bird

Rescue
When an owner passes away, moves, or simply can't cope any more, we give their bird a safe place to go. No judgment, just a way forward.

Rehabilitate
Good food, a clean and roomy space, patience, and veterinary care when it's needed. Many birds arrive plucked, frightened or under-socialized. They get the time they need.

Rehome
We get to know each bird and each adopter, then make a match meant to last. Parrots bond deeply, so we want this move to be their last one.
Because every bird matters
The birds
From budgies to blue-and-golds
Macaws and cockatoos are our specialty, and they are the birds most often left without options. But a bird doesn't have to be big to need help.
Large parrots
Macaws, cockatoos, African greys, Amazons and eclectus. Loud, brilliant, long-lived, and the hardest to place.
Small and medium birds
Conures, cockatiels, budgies, lovebirds and the like. Smaller bodies, the same big need for company.
Found an injured wild bird? We aren't licensed for native wildlife. Please contact a Texas wildlife rehabilitator so it gets the right care quickly.
Before you adopt
A parrot is a decades-long companion
Most birds come to us because nobody explained what living with one is really like. We'd rather you hear it from us first.
- They may outlive you
- Large macaws and cockatoos commonly live 40 to 60 years or more. Adopting one means planning for who cares for them after you.
- They are loud
- A cockatoo's call carries through walls and down the street. It's communication, not misbehavior, and it doesn't train away.
- They need you every day
- Parrots are flock animals. Hours of daily time out of the cage, conversation and things to chew are basics, not extras.
- They are worth it
- A settled parrot is funny, affectionate and endlessly curious. For the right home, there's nothing like it.

New Beginnings Bird Rescue was created with one purpose at heart: to give parrots in need a safe place to land, heal, and find the loving forever homes they deserve. We are proud to introduce the people helping make that mission possible.
Kelsie Begin
Founder & Executive Director
Kelsie is the founder of New Beginnings Bird Rescue and oversees the rescue's day-to-day operations. Her responsibilities include coordinating bird intakes, rehabilitation and veterinary care, adoptions, volunteers, fundraising, and the continued growth of the rescue.
Her vision is to create a safe haven where every bird is treated as an individual and given the time, care, patience, and compassion needed for a true second chance.
Mark Stites
Treasurer
Mark serves as Treasurer and helps oversee the financial responsibilities of New Beginnings Bird Rescue. He works to ensure that donations and rescue funds are handled responsibly and used to support the care, housing, veterinary needs, food, enrichment, and other necessities of the birds in our care.
Hunter Jackson
Regional Director
Hunter is a passionate bird lover who helps birds in need in the Central Texas area. Hunter coordinates bird surrenders and intakes throughout Central Texas, connecting with local foster families, assisting with rehoming and adoption efforts, and helping ensure rescued birds are placed in safe, knowledgeable, and loving homes.
